A particle is moving on a horizontal line. Its distance from the origin at time t seconds is f(t)=12/(t+1)+18/(t^2+1) feet. What is the instantaneous velocity at three seconds?

Solution

f(t)=12/(t+1)+18/(t2+1)

f\'=-12/(t+1)2 -36t/(t2+1)2

f\'(3)=-1.83m/s or 1.83m/s in opposite direction
