A car in the left lane is traveling at 92.0 km/h. A car in the right lane is traveling at 82.0 km/h. The cars\' front bumpers are initially 0.68 km apart? Answer in units of s.

a) What is in km/h the velocity of the righ car relative to the left car? Take the forward motion direction of the car as positive.

b) How long in minutes will take the cars to catch up to each other?

Solution

right car velocity relative to left car = -(92 - 82)

right car velocity relative to left car = - 10 km/h

let after time t car catch up each other then,

time = distance / speed

t = 0.68 / 10

t = 0.068 hour or 4.08 minute

time it\'ll take to catch up = 4.08 minute
