when the canon is bolted the speed of shell, u = 595 m/s

let V is the recoil speed of canon and u\' is the speed of shell when the canon is unbolted.

Apply, conservation of momentum.

0 = M*V + m*u\'

V = m*u\'/M

now Apply conservation of energy

0.5*m*u^2 = 0.5*m*u\'^2 + 0.5*M*V^2

m*u^2 = m*u\'^2 + M*(m*u\'/M)^2

m*u^2 = m*u\'^2 + m^2*u\'^2/M
