Recombinases, such as phiC and bxb1 can stably invert DNA sequences that are flanked by the appropriate recombination sites. These recombination sites are placed around promoters, transcription terminators, and genes to regulate gene expression. Suiti et al (Lu lab) have used these enzymes to build genetic logic gates in bacteria.
