A polarized beam of light has intensity I0 We want to rotate

A polarized beam of light has intensity I0. We want to rotate the direction of polarization by 90.0degree using polarizing sheets, (a) Explain why we must use at least two sheets, (b) What is the transmitted intensity if we use two sheets, each of which rotates the direction of polarization by 45.0degree? (c) What is the transmitted intensity if we use four sheets, each of which rotates the direction of polarization by 22.5degree?

Solution

if we use only one sheet then the polariser and this sheetwill be crossed , so no intensity will be transmited .
the intensity of the light after n number of sheets withequal angles with the other is
                         I = I0 * cos 2n ( )
so
for   B )    I=  I0 * cos 4 (45)
and    c )   I=  I0 * cos 8 (22.5)
