h.Using the Little Texas Quadrangle, what kind of stream drainage pattern has developed along West Gafford Creek?
Solution
a.How many first-order streams are shown on the Rhun Map? - 14
b.How many second-order streams are shown on the Rhun Map? - 5
c.What stream order is the stream identified by the letter A? - 1st order
d.What stream order is the stream identified by the letter B? - 2nd order
e.What is the highest stream order shown on the Rhun Map? - Stream at point A
f.Using the Umnak Quadrangle, what kind of stream drainage pattern has developed around Okmok Caldera? - Radial
g.Explain your reasoning behind your choice of the stream drainage pattern identified in Question f.
ANS - A radial drainage pattern occurs when the tributaries flow radially outward and downward from a central topographic high. This type of pattern is typical of volcanic cones, isolated hills, and elevated domes as seen for around Okmok Caldera.
h.Using the Little Texas Quadrangle, what kind of stream drainage pattern has developed along West Gafford Creek? - Trellis
i.Explain your reasoning behind your choice of the stream drainage pattern identified in Question h.
ANS - The streams in this area form a trellis drainage pattern. The resistant bedrock ridges are drained by short stream and the non-resistant bedrock units form valleys containing SUBSEQUENT streams. As is typical with the trellis drainage pattern, the location of the streams before exposure of this surface is imprinted upon the current pattern. This imprint is evident in the way the streams have cut through the ridges.
