Solution

a) Q = C V

potential drop across C2 , V2 = Q2 / C2 = 30 * 10-6 / 3 * 10-6 = 10 V

Charge stored on C1, Q1 = C1 V2 = 6 * 10-6 * 10 = 60 muC

Total charge = 30 + 60 = 90 muC

charge stored on C3 = 90 muC

b) V3 = Q3 / C3 = 90 / 5 = 18 V

Vab = V2 + V3 = 10 + 18

applied voltage = 28 V
