Imagine that you are a safety officer, and you have been asked to recommend a type of ventilation system for your company. Which one would you choose, and why? Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.

Solution

General ventilation controls heat and hazardous chemical contaminants that could affect health and safety of workers, can also affect the overall production. Honestly speaking both air quality and adequate air flow are vital to the daily operations of any company.

As a safety officer I do regularly inspect and test workplaces and it is very essential to ensure adequate ventilation flow. Before installing a ventilation system for a particular company, few factors are to be considered like as:

1. Industrial systems are basically designed to move a specific amount of air at a specific speed i.e velocity, which results in the removal of contaminants.

2. Provide a continuous supply of fresh outside air and maintain temperature and humidity at comfortable levels.

3. Finally the ventilation system must do reduce potential fire or explosion hazards.

Ventilation can be defined as the process of supplying air and removing air from any space by natural or mechanical means.

GENERAL DILUTION VENTILATION do include dilution of contaminated air thereby controlling potential airborne health hazards like vapors and gases. Apart from this heat control ventilation also needs to be considered. In a workplace, ventilation is used to control exposure to airborne contaminants and these atmospheric contaminants are as low as can be reasonably achieved. Make-up air is required to replace the exhaust air.
