Most people receive their “education” in human development through media depictions (i.e., television shows and movies). Identify television shows that you believe are good (realistic) portrayals of humans and personality issues across the lifespan (e.g., teen angst, the midlife crisis, retirement). Compare these portrayals to a list of media examples that you classify as the worst (most misleading or unrealistic) portrayals.

Solution

Two Indian television shows - one is Tenali Rama, a folklore shown on SAB TV or Sonyliv and another is a show called Mega kitchen shown on National geographic channel. The first one is based an a poet in the court of King Krishnadeva Raya of Vijaynagar in the 16th century who was a genius, and used his intellect to solve complex problems related to public administration and strategic affairs that used to arise at Vijaynagar. On the other hand the second one involves how various organizations or institutions in India could feed thousands of people in a day without affecting the quality of food nor reducing its quantity. The institutes are ISKON(International society of krishna consciousness); Golden temple, Amritsar; kalinga institue and the list continues. The important message conveyed by this program is the zenith of efficiency and dedication shown by the management in organizing each event without worrying about the size and complexity of the event. Besides, the management also keep in mind to feed the depressed section of the society, keeps environment safe through sustaninable technologies like solar powered plants supplying energy and using tons of vegetable wastes to do farming.

The worst would be the Bear Grylls show on discovery channel. The show no doubt teaches us how to survive in a hostile situation in an unfamilar place but certain elements associated with the show are definitely not realistic. A man no doubt will do anything to survive but doing it consistently by eating on animals uncooked body parts, squeezing animals excreta to consume liquid content and feedinng upon docile animals regularly is nauseating, uncouth and quite graphic. A normal man or woman generally would not go to that extent to bring his or her survival skills to the fore. It also involves managing to jump from a steep cliff with a light and thin string which and swimming hours after hours in ocean to reach its shore looks unrealistic, at least from my view point.
