Can some please help me answer the following questions.

Be able to describe the Negative feedback mechanism in Controlling of calcemia (Calcium blood level). 1. Describe the mechanism of Homeostasis in this case: 2. Identify the stimulus, the receptors, which respond to this stimulus, and the effector organ for Calcium Blood level regulation. 3. Is this mechanism beneficial or harmful? 4. Is the process self-terminated or not? Explain. 5. Explain the hormones involved in this process and how the equilibrium is maintained?

Solution

Feedback mechanism in controlling calcium blood level(calcemia):

1. When calcium level in blood increases , calcitonin hormone secreted from parafollicular cells of thyroid gland and decreases blood calcium level by inhibiting bone resorption by osteoclasts, stimulating calcium deposition by osteoblasts and stimulating calcium excretion by the kidneys.

2. Stimulus - blood calcium level

Receptor -parathyroid and thyroid gland

Effector - bones, kidneys and intestine

3)This mechanism is benefied.

4)The process is self terminated as the blood calcium level normalise.

5) Hormones-

Parathyroid hormone- released in response to low blood calcium level. It increases Calcium level by stimulating bone resorption ang calcium absorption by kidneys and intestines.

Calcitonin- released in response to the high bloblood calcium level. It decreases blood calcium level by inhibiting bone resorption, stimulating calcium deposition to bones and stimulating calcium excretion by the kidneys.
