Describe how absorption of a color component of white light by a solution alters the color of the solution

Solution

White light consists of light of several different frequencies each of which corresponds to light of a different colour.When light strikes an solution , a part of it is absorbed by the object.The light that is reflected to our eyes ,is the colour of the solution percieved by eyes.This phenomena is known as selective absorption. If a solution absorbs light of all frequencies of white light except frequency associated with blue light, it will appear blue to our eye.If a solution absorbs light of all frequencies associated with white light it will appear black, as it is not reflecting any colour.
