The Renaissance period sets in with the new enlightenment for Europeans. In French the term Renaissance means \"rebirth\". During this period in European civilization immediately following the Middle Ages and after the Black Death wiped out nearly half of Europe\'s population. In this time interest in classical learning and values movement is highly up warded.

During this Renaissance period the feudal system is decreased and the powerful innovations like paper, mariner\'s compass, printing, and gunpowder taken placed it leads to growth of commerce. A revolution in philosophy, science and mathematics dramatically changed arts and culture in Europe.

Prior to the Renaissance, texts were tediously hand written, and education was reserved to wealthy citizens who could afford such luxury. Around 1450, German citizen Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press, and with it came an increasingly informed society. Renaissance humanists broke free from medieval tradition to put the focus on personal interests instead of religious demands. Humanists emphasized the importance of worldly pleasures and studied classic texts from philosophers like Plato and Aristotle for inspiration. With humanism came an increased interest in travel and the pursuit of knowledge. The Renaissance is best known throughout popular culture for its contribution to the arts. Instead of focusing on traditional depictions of religious figures and iconography, artists like Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Titian painted studies of the human body in detail.

The Renaissance Influence on contemporary society:

The Renaissance directed the society toward more humanist and realistic perspectives. It increase human interconnection through a network of relationships that is progressively covering the whole planet, the pace and depth of the evolution of human ways of life determined by technological innovation represent an absolute novelty in human history, the scale of anthropological and ecological transformation due to the interaction between evolutionary factors (social, cultural, economic, and technological) has no historical precedent. Without the Renaissance, we might not preserve and appreciate the fine arts as we do today.
