Present arguments for and against the federal trade commission role in the regulation of business.

Solution

The Federal Trade Commission has played important role in protecting consumers\' and investors\' interest against unfair and monopolistic practices , price fixing, bid rigging , deceptive and misleading advertisements and product benefit claims. The FTC can bering civil suits to secure financial compensation and penalties for individuals or for class action litigants damaged by violators of laws. The FTC has wide range of monitoring and oversight powers which is required to protect consumers from unfair treatment in this complex age of multifaceted business.

However , there is opposite view also. There was huge uproar against FTC is late 70s against FTC alleging aggressive activism and prosecution that hampered free economic growth. The Actions of FTC specially with relation to merger and acquisition related actions, the FTC was viewed as insensitive to business needs and this unbridled power needed some answerability. Then FTC was nade answerable to The President of USA from President Regan\'s period .

Thereafter FTC is found to be more cooperative to business growth and has sensitive and flexible view on business activities unlike earlier hawkish regulatory view.
