You are a physician, and one of your patients is a 30-year old sedentary man who is skeptical about the benefits of exercise. He tells you that data have shown that trained and sedentary individuals have close to the same VO2max by age 70. So why should he bother adopting a physically active lifestyle, if everyone’s cardiovascular fitness decreases to nearly the same level throughout life? How would exercise benefit his health as he ages? Provide at least 3 reasons with physiological explanations.

1.Helps maintain weight: As we age the metabolism slows down and have the tendancy to gaun weight which is not good for the health. Because the weight gain might results in obesity and its side effects. Hence the exercise hepls in maintaining or decreasing the body weight by burning calories.

2.Improves immunity: As we age we have the tendancy to have lack of immunity and acquire infections. But the exercise improves circulation and formation of white blood cells. Hence exercise give us immunity to fight back the antigens.

3. Reduces cardiovascular risks: As we age we have tendancy to develop cardiovascular ailments due to our ill health and lack of physical activity. I f we exercise the blood flow will be fastened and blood floe velocity will be maintained and it do not allow blood to be stagnant. Where stagnancy of blood might cause clot formation. Hence exercise thins the blood and prevent us by suffering from myocardial infarction.
