A car is lapping an elliptical racetrack at a constant speed

A car is lapping an elliptical racetrack at a constant speed of 250.km{h in the counterclockwise direction. The length of the major axis of the track is 1.60 km and the length of the minor axis is 0.800 km. The circumference of the racetrack is 3.87 km.

Solution

a] average velocity in covering one quarter (from A to B) = sqrt(0.80^2+0.40^2)/((3.87/4)/250)

= 231 km/h

b] average acceleration = [250 sqrt 2]/((3.87/4)/250) = 91357 km/h^2 = 91357*1000/(3600^2) m/s^2= 7.05 m/s^2
