Given the reaction 3CaCO3 s 3CaO s 3CO2 g Kp 00131 at 800

Given the reaction: 3CaCO3 (s) 3CaO (s) + 3CO2 (g) Kp = 0.0131 ( at 800 oC ) The pressure ( in atm ) of CO2 (g) at equilibrium is:

a) 4.37 x 10-3 b) 0.0393 c) 0.236 d) 0.0131

Solution

reaction is
3CaCO3 (s) 3CaO (s) + 3CO2 (g)

in equlibrium constant equation concentration of solid do not appear
so,
Kp = (pCO2)^3
0.0131 = (pCO2)^3
(pCO2) = 0.236 atm

Answer : option c
