A capacitor with an initial potential difference of 100 V is discharged through a resistor when a switch between them is closed at t = 0. At t_ 8.0 s, the potential difference across the capacitor is 1.00 V. (a) What is the time constant of the circuit? (b) What is the potential difference across the capacitor at t- 4. 15.0 s7

Solution

A) V = V0*(e^-(t/T))

1 = 100*(e^-(8/T))

0.01 = (e^-(8/T))

ln 0.01 = -8/T

T = - 8/ ( ln 0.01)

= 1.737 s answer

B) V = 100e^(-15/1.737178)

= 0.0178 V answer
